    Ntfrs journal wrap error

I have a single DC running server 2003 and am getting error event ID 13568, stating volume C:\ is in journal wrap error. I have had experience with this in the past during a server migration. The correction involved setting the burflags key in the registry to d2 on one dc and d4 on the other and that corrected it. My question is why is this happening on a single DC in a network? Why is it trying to replicate to a DC that is no longer there? This is 3-4 months after the demotion and removal of the old DC.

I think I have to effect and authoritative restore of the AD data, but am hesitant because there is no other DC in the network to replicate to....

    Any thoughts?

Thanks GZ- I have been looking over this and have also started the server in safe mode - directory services restore mode. The first thing the server did is effect a chkdsk and deleted/repaired corrupted files. I rebooted again into safe mode and got a clean boot. Then I ran the ntdsutil command, typed files, then recover - no errors. The error message remained in the event viewer. The link you provided references replication between 2 or more DC's in a domain.......that is where I am stuck. There is no other DC in this domain, so why am I getting replication errors? Also, if I proceed with either a non-authoritative or authoritative restore am I going to dig myself into a hole where this DC is looking for another one to replicate with and it is not there.......

...also, the old DC was properly demoted and removed and has been fine for several months......

If you're sure that you have correctly followed the DCPROMO thing to demote the old (dead) DC, then I'd have to ask whether there has been any change to the configuration - either the server or the network...
I've seen the light... It was green, flashy and attached to a Network Interface Card...

We had to do a forced demotion with metadata cleanup, but things have been fine for several months......this error just started popping up. The only thing that has happened recently is a power outage in which the server shutdown non gracefully. I also went into the bios and checked the PERC 5/i controller and all disks are online and the global hot spare is still intact, not having been used.

Not that this is part of the thread but you should look into another domain controller for redundancy
