Hi guys,

It has somehow become my responsibility to try and find a backup solution for our test pcs in work. We had been using Norton Ghost, but as we got more and more varied test sets it has become less than adequate.

My problem is the range of OS on these systems. We use;

MS DOS
Windows 95/98/ME/XP/2000
Sun Unix

as you can imagine some of these PCs are extremely dated, I think we even have a few 486 in that mix. We had been using a Maxtor One Touch external hard drive to back up our files, but it has no support for Windows 98 or lower and am not entirely sure about Unix support. Some of the PCs physically do not see the drive, some sort of USB thing I'm told older PCs may always have this problem. Some of the PCs also have no network connection, although this could be worked on I'm sure if needed. The Unix ones may prove to be a problem with network connections.

Do any of you guys know of a possible solution to my problem? I was sort of aiming towards some sort of network backup, this would rule out a lot of the Hard Drive issues but as far as I am aware we do not have a backup server method setup, nor do we know of any software that would work for this.
Is it a big job to setup a dedicated backup server? Would a dedicated PC on the network prove enough?

Apologies if this all sounds a bit vague as I really do not know how to get around this problem, which is one we do really need addressed as some of the PCs are so old, if they break we may never recover them and our ability to support the products will be lost.
