Alternative to VLC media player
I'm trying to watch The X-Files with VLC media player and in the middle of the movie the player cuts out. I installed the latest player with the same result. Is there another player I can use? Thanks.
BTW- The disk is fine. As far as I can tell. This is the first time VLC had failed on me.

I take it this is a DVD? You could try a demo version of PowerDVD or WinDVD.

Windows Media Player? It works just fine for standard DVDs.

Every time I tried Windows Media Player I had to install some addition driver or something. I'll have to try it again.

WMP doesn't natively have all the codecs, so it'll dial home to MS to get any special ones.

Yeah, when I try to make it dial home it won't. WMP 10.
Here's what I get. After I say ok it says Windows Media Player can not play the file. There is no download option. Maybe I should just install WMP 11. Or is it 12 now?Last edited by Taxmancometh; September 6th, 2011 at 01:58 AM.

Media Player Classic is another option. I think I got it with Real Alternative, but it's available separately too. I use it & VLC and can play just about any video format.

could also try JetAudio Basic, usually works pretty well, and should play DVD's fine with no extra codec downloads.

Well, I tried Jetaudio and got the same problem. I just watched Jeppers Creepers in VLC and had no problem. I'm beginning to think it's the disk.

I second the Media Player Classic... It plays all I through at it with no problems; even audio files.
