    Welcome to TechIMO!

I don't have win 7, but in general the newer windows, upgrades, if they are like XP are not really upgrades.

Back in the days of 95 and 98, they upgraded the program, but now they basically save all your files, and any programs, then do a clean install. then insert, your programs, and files.

It is not fool proof by any means, although it works, most of the time, from what I hear.

But you should back up everything you don't want to loose, as it could fail.

I personally would not even consider the upgrade option, and would back up everything, and do a clean install.

Something is bound to screw up, and any spyware, or viruses, would transfer to the new installation.

There are 2 meanings to Upgrade, when it comes to MS.

First all versions, can perform an upgrade, or a clean instal.

Then there is an Upgrade Disk, which is a little cheaper, but has to have a qualifying previous version of windows to work, but can still do an upgrade, or a clean install.

The only reason I would do an upgrade, is if I had software, that the media was missing, but there is no guarantee, that the software will work.
