    Flash Player won't install

Just recently I've been having issues with Flash Player playing videos. It came out of the blue and I have no other issues outside of this which indicate any malware or virus. My system is pretty new, having bought it in Feb or March of this year -- It's a Dell with the Windows 7 OS. I currently have Firefox 6.0 and Internet Explorer 9 installed (as a back up browser) and everything has been running smooth until recently. Now, when I go to watch a video, I am constantly asked to install the Flash Player to view the video, but the install doesn't usually work; I usually get the message "the ActiveX control for Flash Player could not be registered." I've been able to install it successfully in Firefox on occassion, but the weird thing is it doesn't stay installed. If I go to a video later or after a restart, I get the "need to install..." message again. I've uninstalled it, reinstalled it over and over, but still have the same problem. I read somewhere that it might be an issue with the computer's registry, but didn't want to do anything until I sought advice.

    Thanks,

    -Lefky

First I'd start by downloading and running the un-installer. That should get rid of the old remnants that might be causing issues. Uninstall Flash Player | Windows

Then download the new installer directly from Adobe. Don't trust third party sites for installers, especially flash. That is one of the most widely used ways to spread malware.

This is what I've tried to do countless times, but I received the same message "Failed to register," this was in Internet Explorer, mind you. I then tried Firefox and it worked, but this happened before where the successful install was only temporary -- I'll let you know if it remains installed. I also read that I should get the 32 bit version of IE and not the 64 bit version for the Flash Player to work, though my OS is 64 bit. I tried to install the 32 bit IE, but I received a message saying this was the wrong version for my system, so I had to go with the 64 bit version.
