    Big registry or normal

My old man has an old xp box that continues to grind slower and slower.

I have run registry cleaners in the past with no perceived improvment.

I exported the registry and it is 113MB on an XP system.

This seems excessive, My xp registry in the office is about 4MB after several years.

My old mans machine has been running the same software for years and he generally does not visit any exciting sites. So why is his machine continuing to degrade.

I could toss in a fresh copy of XP but I just am curious as to how one keeps the registry stable like in my office PC.

I load and unload software regularly in the office machine but the registry remains stubbornly small A good thing in my view.

Scanning for malware would probably be a better idea then worring about the registry.
Imagine a world where dogs took bad owners to the pound...

You don't have to visit exciting sights, to get malware, it's everywhere now.

I fix a computer just last week, and I know that the owner, only goes to everyday legit sights, and after, scanning in safe mode, found 42 spywares.

If he has any tool bars, they usually slow things down, because they are spyware.

Her original complaint was, it is getting very slow.
After cleaning out all the tool bars, and spyware, it is as fast as it ever was.

What is your scanning tool of choice?

The one the found the vast majority, was run in safe mode. SuperAntiSpyware
If I paste their link, it goes crazy, and duplicates itself over and over, so you will have to Google, for it

    Malwarebytes Special Offer!
    found a few.

I also ran CCleaner - Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download, for the thousands of cookies, she accumulated.

The only problem left was that things kept disappearing from the tray like the volume control, and Microsoft Security Essentials, so I switched to Avast, just in case.
