What version of windows are you running? What happens when you say right click a word document, click open with, and set Word 2003 as default?

    Or try this
Change which programs Windows uses by default

Chose Associate a file type or protocol with a program. You can change each specific file type individually. If you want to totally default all Office programs to 2003 at once you'd probably be looking at a registry hack or something. Or just un-install 2010
