Hi could someone tell me what these files are for in Win XP home.
I have a machine here and these two files are taking up 100% processor usage.
The advapi32.exe is a user service and svchost.exe is a local service. I looked in the task manager for that.
Wait... I did another look at the task manager and there are a total of 5 of svchost.exe files running. One is a network service next one is a local service and 3 are system services. CPU load on all but 1 of the svchost.exe is ~2% the other local service one is 30-80%
When these two CPU hogging programs are running I can't get onto the internet and the computer is very slow I can't shut down correctly. It's just a big mess.
When I end task on these files everything works just fine.
Can anyone give me any suggestions on either how to shut some of these service off on startup or give me a little explanation on what these files are?
I'm fairly new to XP and in the dark.
Thanks
Jim
