3 corrupt files while reinstalling xp
I'm currently reinstalling xp 2002, during the install there was errors with :
com+ file : catsrv.dll
dvdupgrd.exe
and
inetcomm.dll
I am currently carrying on upgrading to sp2 and sp3 in the hope that the service packs will fix the problems.
Is this a bad idea?
Am I better to fix the dll problems first?
I can't open any webpages though I am online and get errors if I try to open "system" in control panel, no hardware drivers have been updated automatically.
And I haven't been able to install software for chipset, sound etc.

Might be a bit late but I'd try to fix the corrupted files before you start. If the system loads open a command prompt and run the system file checker sfc /scannow
How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7
If that works to repair the issue then you'll be good to go. If not at least then try a repair install of Windows before going through the upgrade to SP3. At least then if you get it fixed you'll know its good and you won't have to face the hassle of re-installing if just adding in the SP doesn't help.
edit: I should add I'm not aware of dvdupgrd.exe Google shows it could be a malicious file. Is this a legit copy of Windows? It is shown by MS as possibly being related to a virus MS Kb dvdupgrd.exeLast edited by RicheemxX; May 14th, 2012 at 11:31 PM.

Thanks
I just finished installing sp3 and I can't work on the pc till tomorrow now so I won't know till then how it is.
I'm doing this for a friend in another country using teamviewer remote access.
They are now in bed and I haven't been able to connect to the pc after the sp3 restart.

You need to ask if the XP cd is an original or a copy of an original.
A dirty cd or dirty drive can cause the errors.Imagine a world where dogs took bad owners to the pound...

Update
The sp3 update did fix it.
Before sp3 I couldn't install chipset/graphics/sound drivers but now I can.
Just tidying up other stuff now.
Phew!
