Reinstalled XP over existing XP but used different username can I change name back?
Because a different username was input when installing the update (anne), all of the programs/desktop/settings etc are the same as an older xp install when the same username was used.
Can I change the current username (anne) to the username used just before the reinstall (annegret) so that I can get all the desktop/program settings back to the way they were before?
Can I copy/move the contents of the users folder, or do I just login using the preffered username (annegret)?Last edited by Waigy; May 15th, 2012 at 02:58 PM.

The reinstalled killed all of the apps on the pc... The user name doesn't make any difference.

All of the programs work fine just now and all of the recent users files are still there in the documents and users folder.
I'm currently following these instructions to try it out.
How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile in Windows XP
Update: this worked to an extent, when I logged in as the newly created user.
All the programs worked but they worked as they do in a fresh xp install so I'm going to start another thread about restoring programs to the way they were before.Last edited by Waigy; May 15th, 2012 at 09:50 PM.

I wish you the best Surreal. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Dying while asleep is what I hope for too. I have read that it IS for the best rather than a long, slow decline but it hurts....
