cyclic unhappiness
win xp pro Compac Deskpro
cyclic operation saying drive D is not good. That is my XP CD. What do I do now? I do not care if I had to reformat the drive as there is only one. But HOW do I do that.
I can break them, just can't fix them.

Welcome to TechIMO!
Not a clue what cyclic operation is.
First you have to have good XP CD, and your CD ROM has to be working.
I doubt you CD is bad, so that leaves the drive.
First you go into the BIOS, and set it to boot first from the CD ROM, or DVD ROM, what ever you are using.
Then you place the XP disk in the drive, and restart the computer.
The XP installation program will start, and follow the directions, which include format.
Feel free to elaborate, and we can answer more, ie System specs, and a more detailed description, of what is going on.
I can't tell from you post, if the computer will boot, or not.Hard Sayin Not Knowin

Reloading xp pro disc32bit which is stuck
asms is needed. Copy D:\I386
Now computer is hung in that 5 statement section and it is stuck in statement 3
The computer has xp on it already from the same disc and has been working for years.
The machine is also not on line so viruses, spyware, etc is a non issue.
It is my electric typewriter basically while I watch T.V. with stuff that has been in there for over a year minimum.
It is a Compaq Deskpro PII machine which is enough for what I am doing.
Question: Can I somehow stop the loading process? As it is basically overlapping itself on the same hard drive space as was there formerly as it is a 6 Gb memory in total.
It just does not want to stop and I do not know how to make it do so.
I can get into the HDD with the F10 and control(or shift button) and that takes me to the black type(I call DOS) and can see I am in system32 folder.
Don't know where to go from here cause I am looking for a GUN

and I was hours from buying another computer...but seeing that I am still a danger to me, that would not be a smart move.
is there a way to break the install loop?
info always appreciated.
I been playing with these toys for about 10 years so familiar with stuff, kinda.

XP has gone cyclic missing SXS file on disc
Computer already has the entire XP in it and I have been using it for years. Was going to try out a rendering program which did not like XP key code, so I dumped in the XP disk again and tried to reinstall it and used a different key code.
It is a 6 gb Compac.PII(not on the net so is clean) >>>> -I am the virus, I am the malware, I am the reason WHY the machine is screwed-<<<<
I can afford to lose everything (I guess the drivers will be the pain)
It is my TV commercial machine...I type during "commercials" using Word 2007 and saved that to stick...before I messed it up.
My computer in school was slide rule so none. I read and (have experiments go bad) but learn(until I start getting cosy and then BLAM done something wrong again.
I learned a lot from you guys during the Win98 years.
So, I guess the XP disc cut a new start point and with the new key code is on a different track.
If I do a "shift F10" >I believe it is done that way< I can see that the computer has the SXS.dll file already there and all the other files (actually about 6gb of information) but I cannot get to it sort of idea.
I was thinking maybe if I FORMAT the HDD to DOS (as it is in NTFS file format right now), if I can take it to DOS, I could load Win98se and then load XP to get back to something useable.
I am not certain if that is the steps I NEED to take or what.
Hey, I fix cars and got all the pieces inside memorized.
On a computer, I have delved into the Registry in my past life...but not in this case.
Wonder if one of you guys would tell me how to "unscrew it"?
Also remembered: "INSTALLATION FAILED D:\I386\asms
D\I386\asms\1000\MSFT\WINDOWS\GDIPLUS\GDIPLUS.MAN on Line 4
(OK that is greek to me)
I don't know how to do this right or what to do.

Merged all your threads together as it sounds like its basically the same on-going issue here.
For starters I have no idea why you'd think your XP Key would have anything to do with a rendering program not working right. If its a valid key it shouldn't make a bit of difference.
Second, if it were me and you don't have anything on the drive to worry about loosing I'd just format the disk and start from scratch. You might even want to grab something like thew UBCD and run some tests on the system. Do memtest and hard drive tests to make sure there aren't issues there.

for Richeemx
this has gone queer. It goes in a Loop and is stuck in the Loop. No internet connection is available as I can't get it to stabilize on Windows
I did what the rendering program asked of me, no more, no less. However I do remember it is in SP 0 (so that most likely was the problem for the rendering program - as it would need at least SP2) Forgot.
Just my guess.Last edited by friedemann; May 20th, 2012 at 09:43 PM. Reason: additional

Because it is stuck partway through the installation process; it is not in Windows
The UBCD says it cannot be read in DOS so I am kinda stuck there RicheemxX.
It indicates 39 minutes of loading time remaining ( that is why I will not cry if I got to Format it to FAT32 and do again.
Right now the format is NTFS. I copied everything off onto stick prior to this happening (almost like I can see into the future...that I knew it was only time before I FU severely.
