Weird Stuff - got no sound after pulling Hard drive.

C Drive did the "clattering pots" type noise - which is a far cry from no sound

So I figured it "went off into history" This is a Pentium 2 Data server with a Quantum AT Fireball Plus AS 3.5 series

As there is no year marking....those that know their stuff know this is in its teens years old. So failure was eminent as this was the "master"
This is what I guess happened. My Computer showed nothing on C drive.

Now I have put in another Hdd, out of an "E Machine" after pulling the other out as a paper weight.
    -------------------------------------------------------------
This is on "cable select". It is the only drive on the 20 pin strip

Maybe I should have gone to master with the jumper---I do not know

However I first used MS to "FORMAT IT" and then loaded Windows XPpro on it.
Also I loaded the audio driver 7012 for SiS because that is the circuitry.

I am up to date with Win XP on its updates.

But no sound comes out of the PC speakers? I don't know why.

I checked the DEVICE MANAGER and only have a question mark regarding USB.

Speakers are connected direct to computer via a round pin on a black wire. (not usb)

Now, I could put the old Quantum in and rehook everything up as it was before,
but is that gonna fix anything ?(or am I just screwing around?)

I did download and install the SiS driver but checking in the DEVICE MANAGER sound I see that there is Legacy Audio driver/Audio Codecs/Legacy Video Capture/Media Control Devices/MPU-401 Compatible MIDI Devices/SiS 7012 Audio driver/Video Codecs
and none have a "yellow Question mark"

So....anybody got an idea what I missed? Cause the PC beep is just not doing it for me if you know what I mean.

    Appreciate any insight into this.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The "asms" problem I got past but there is another problem plaging me now
    Different machine, different problem.
I got a different XP disc and it continued to download from 39 minutes

Got to the music and animations and everything.

Now initially on that computer I just wanted Windows in and to leave what I had in there alone.
So this is just a "read the CD and do repairs or reload itself"
Hoping all my files would still be there. OK?
I get down to the finish with the NEXT buttons AND IT ASKS FOR A PASSWORD

SAY WHAT? Enter was the password. I did not put one in. How do I get around this roadblock Windows has put up.?

Right now the CD has finished reading. I do not care if I have to reload it again to do it again. There is no password.
Also the computer is not on line.

It has been shut down for 2 months already. I was hoping to get it back up and going.

All I know how to do is format C

It is all in NTFS so maybe DOS command Format C won't even work.

    Bother, it P. me Off

Again, any help in this machine is appreciated. This machine is a Compaq Pentium2

How to set up XP pro for a single user?

Got both former problems fixed on my own. How, I can't remember.

This PC "ECS"is loaded with all updates for XP pro I shut my machines off for the night.
So, on cold boot it goes as far as the point where my name is button(like it is a multiple user machine (which it ain't and won't ever be)

I just want to turn on the machine and go get my cereal and coffee and come back to a fully functional machine(as the antivirus, firewall and whatever it decides it needs loads. I just want it to get to desktop ready to go.

Direct me how to do that is much more preferable than me making an attempt at it. I do know how not to pick the winning Lottery numbers, if you get my drift.

To disable the login prompt in Windows XP:
    1. Click Start > Run, type in:
      control userpasswords2
      and press [Enter].

    2. Uncheck the box for "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" then click Apply > Ok.

    To Spyware Doctor

It did work. However in my first letter everything showed up as "regular type with no highlights" Why, only the PC knows. The second time I went to the letter I got the red highlighted words so I copied and pasted. Machine listened.

I know you guys are good
