Facebook slow after upgrade to Windows 7

I have an AMD Phenom 9750 Quad Core.. I think it's 2.4Ghz. I have 4GB memory. I'm on high speed cable internet.

Before I ran Windows XP. Now I've formatted and installed fresh Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit. I've installed all the updated and Avast! Free Antivirus. I had all this on my XP too.

I use Firefox and run the latest beta, 14.0.

Facebook is very slow to load if it will load at all. Sometimes if I do get Facebook to load then apps.facebook.com won't load or it'll be really slow.

    I did a ping on facebook.com.. all fine.. 15ms - 19ms.

I did a tracert. 12 hops and all have low pings! The highest ping was 51ms, which is not high at all. The lowest was 9ms.. not counting of course the <1ms to the router.

Facebook works great from my Girlfriends machine which is XP. Facebook works decent from my machine if I use Internet Explorer, but I don't want to use that garbage!

Do you use any apps for facebook? What about a non beta version of firefox do you run into the issue still?

If it works fine on IE, then it sounds like an issue with the beta browser.

... crap only 30 seconds after I posted this I fond at least a temporary solution. Wish I could mark this as solved.

It has something to do with AdBlock Plus. Disabling that Facebook works great. Some people to say to update Java, so am going to try that now.

No that didn't work, sorry. Just worked once or twice, but now it's back to it's old self.

Have you tried the non beta version without the addons?

Have not tried a non beta Firefox since it doesn't work with Internet Explorer at all.

Even though this is a newly installed system with hardly anything installed, I checked my hosts file and it's clean.

Just because you asked I tried Firefox 13.. no luck. Cleared my cache more than once no luck.

Also tried https:// and that doesn't work either.

Going to try taking the router out of the equation after dinner.. direct me to cable mode.

For people who are wondering (fingers crossed) I think I solved the issue. Went to Speedguide.net and used their TCP/IP Optimizer. Facebook loading fast now and every time so far. Sucks that Windows 7 wasn't optimized right out the box.

Im not sure what you are talking about, plenty of people have had installed Windows 7 and facebook and other webpages opened up just fine. Im running Windows 7 right now and I dont have any speed issues with facebook.
