Sysprep before cloning drive for new PC

Basic idea is we have some machines up for lease that have complicated software installs, lots of settings etc.
XP, going to xp, and in most cases intel chipset going to AMD.
in the past I've used sysprep to strip out drivers and reset windows so when cloned it will ask for the new info and you can simply boot it up and install the new drivers.
It doesnt seem to be working, and I'm curious if there is anyone here having current experience doing this within a domain situation...
I'm running sysprep, and popping out the drive, cloning it over to the new hardware, and booting back up.
it now begins to load windows, and then reboots automatically, or simply bluescreens.
it also wont allow a repair from the install disk, because it bluescreens before checking for the old install...
when booting to safemode, it hangs at drivers.mup every time.
I even uninstalled all the chipset and main drivers first before running sysprep and Im still having this issue.

    Hi,

I'm sure you've thought of it, but did you ensure that the system is running on the default drivers..? I've had it before when it had silently re-installed the base drivers for a specific hardware item, that then borked when put into the new kit...

Also, is this for a PC or a LT..? I've dealt with LTs that we had to change the HDD settings in the BIOS for it to load into Windoze...

    Let us know...
I've seen the light... It was green, flashy and attached to a Network Interface Card...
Whenever someone says "You can't miss it", I invariably do...

    bump
    These are PC's
And I now have to wonder if AHCI is an issue...
the old pc's are not AHCI, but the new ones are.

the computer wont boot but if idle drive is enable no problems
