I had this problem and it turn out my Disk #4 was bad. I suggest you make them again and use a different disk for #4.

U can still get W2000 on floppies?
My 2000pro only came on a disc.
But I had a bad floppy in my DOS 6.2.
If a clean install set BIOS to only boot
from CD & HDD.Last edited by nomaxim; July 15th, 2002 at 02:02 PM.

I didn't exactly get this error but another one. It was a big blue screen right after I would install 2000's floppys. I would have to reboot, put the floppys in and then get the error again. Come to find out one of my floppys was bad but win2k disn't notice. Made disks again and all was fine.

Try building a new set of boot disks using the Win2k CD. You'll need a boot-up floppy with CD drivers for you cd-rom. CD path you need is X:\Bootdisk (where X is your CD-ROM drive letter). Run makeboot, and follow the prompts. Should work just fine with a fresh set of disks.
Out of curiousity, why not boot with the CD?? Or is the computer too old for that?

I think all Win2k CDs are bootable, it might be a problem in your BIOS. Make sure it boots as CDROM, C, A... or just make sure CDROM is the FIRST one it tries to boot from. If that doesn't work, do the action below.
If the computer is new or is running a 9x platform... make a StartUp disk (from any Win9x OS), and put it in... When you reach the Boot Menu, select "Start with CDROM Support" or something along those lines... When you get a command prompt, type X:\Setup, where X is the CDROM drive letter it assigned. That should work... Let me know if you have any problems.

no os on the computer. the copy of 2k is a burned copy that was not given bootable drivers. while going this whole problem, my 98 bootdisk went bad on me so i have been stuck going the round about way of doing things. even when my bootdisk did work i would boot to a prompt with cd rom support and the setup says it can't run in dos?!?! trust me when i say the cd is not a bootable cd, this has nothing to do with the drive not being bootable though, i have it sent in the bios to check A, CDROM, HDD 0.

you might not want to say that about ur 2k on these forums...
Anyways, still try setting your bios to CDROM, HDD, A or whatever... make SURE the CDROM is FIRST! It actually makes s difference... If you still want to be able to boot from floppy, there's another option that's Bootable Floppy Seek or something... Depending on how close it is to the real deal, it should boot just fine... can you create a new boot disk? If you don't know how to, it would be control panel -> add/remove programs -> startup disk... that's for 9x OS's though...
I just tried what I told you (the setup thing), and whoa... it didn't work... but what JimG said is an option... you'll get 4 fresh new disks that should work just fine.

>the copy of 2k is a burned copy that was not given bootable drivers
then you have a pirated copy. all genuine w2k cds have a bootloader.
and btw there is a way to install w2k from dos...

Pcworld had a article on how to make a boot disk for w2k & xp, I think it was the June issue. However, I don't think the process worked until after the install, no drivers cd and such. If the cd is not bootable then making new floppies may be only way.
If this is a pirated copy it may be missing more then just the boot files and may not work. Try getting new one.
