WinXP HE & Folder Access?

Hi, Im using WinXP HE and would like to know if there is a way to restrict access to certain folders on the computer?

Is it possible to set a password for example?

Mind you I have the Home Edition, not sure how different that would be from the pro version.

Thanks,
CM.

Hmmm does HE have NTFS Support?
I would have to assume YES

SO What you can do (mind you it can be dangerous) is set NTFS permissions on your folders... IF your drives are formatted NTFS. If you're FAT32 then no, no way to do this TMK. FAT32 is horribly insecure.

To find out what you're formatted as you can right click on the drive itself and it should tell you.
IF its NTFS then you can you right click on your folder and go to the Security tab (given that XPdoesn't hide that from you ) and set the proper permissions.

A more clumsy but still good way to do this is to get PGP and encrypt the folder with conventional encryption (Acrypt does this as well and it's a smaller dl, do a google for it). You have to decrypt-encrypt each time but it works.

You can only prevent other profiles on your system from accessing your folders. You can't assign permissions in Home Edition the same way you can in Pro. You can't restrict access to some folders, but yet allow access to others.(well technically you can but it diff than with pro.) It's either all or nothing with Home Edition.

You can't stop people from accesing those folders from within your profile though. You can, however, password protect your user profile itself, so that a password is required to log into it.

BTW, in Home Edition permissions function the same way, regardless of whether your using NTFS or FAT32.
