| Dual Booting Windows98SE and RedHat Linux 7.2
Hi there....
I recently purchased a (SAM) Book and with it comes a full installer of RedHat Linux 7.2.
Right now my OS is Windows98SE and I would like to Dual boot it with the Linux 7.2.
Is there a way in which I could do this without sacrificing my Windows98SE and my other files.
If so what would I need to do..
I have a 30GB hard disk and I partitioned it into 3 drives (10GB each).
Thanks...

Yes, you can do it. You need to reduce the size of the Win 98SE Partition to make empty room for your Linux partitions. Pick a drive that has plenty of free space and use that one as the one to be reduced. If you have Partition Magic, it is easy to resize the partitions using it. If not, the Linux install gives you the option to resize. It has been a while since I installed Linux, so I will leave the specifics to other Linux gurus.
Good luck with the RH. It is a fun OS to learn.

Unless you get another hard disk you will have to format one of those partitions and put Red hat on it....
I suggest removing one of those partitions then putting a small swap partition (~same amount of physical RAM you have) then use the rest of the space for Red hat....
Boot the Red hat CD, the installer will let you do all of this and will still allow you to load Windows. |

that looked like a good article pbharris, i'd def read through it. when you actually come to the install of redhat, i'd use disk druid since its a lot easier than fdisk, and it doesn't make the changes right away. later you will come to a section asking about the bootloader. i'd install grub since it is most compatible right out of the box. also there will be a window down at the bottom that has Linux and all teh non-Linux partitions listed. the fat partition should have the label "DOS" in front of it, all you need to do is rename it to "windows 98" (or whatever you want it to be called) and dual-booting will be set up.
EDIT:just in case anything happens, i'd keep your 98 cd handy and back up all your files on that partition first, you never know. |

| RedHat Linux on other Drive
I had just succesfully installed my RedHat Linux awhile ago, but using another HardDisk. Could it be possible for me to make this (2) Physical Drive recognize a Dual Boot? (For my Windows98SE and RH Linux 7.2) If so, what would I be needing? Could you please write me the step-by-step method coz this is really my first time to have a hands-on in Linux.
I really love to learn Linux.
Thanks...
It's me;
