| XP home or win 2000, which is better
This will be used for a 2-computer network ( that might grow but not for at least 6 months) me the wife and our web biz. I have 2 comps, 1 with 2000 and the other slow comp has 98 First edition. I may just network these two but I was thinking about buying a new comp to replace the slow k-62 with 98 on it. It’s 50/50 but if I do it should I get the new comp with 2000, which seems easy since the other comp has 2000 on it or should I get the new comp with XP home and network it with the 2000. I am mainly looking for ease of use. Since its with the wife, I don’t utilize some of the security features that 2000 has to offer. Any tips. If I keep the K6-2 and network that 98 system with 2000, is there anything to look out for?
Thanks |

Well networking under Windows 2000 isn't any harder than networking using Windows XP... Take your pick!

Well... Xp is the best. It's great for multiple users and I personally love it. I give a 5/5

I prefer Win2k because it has the bugs worked out of it already and it is very secure. Plus it dosen't have nearly the incompatability problem of XP. But thats just my opinion.

i also prefer win2k. it's had several service packs, which xp hasn't even had it's first one yet. plus it runs better than XP IMO. in fact my best pcmark scores were in win2k (consistently too. i tried several times but my average 2k scores were about 250 points higher than in XP). plus if you already have 2000, then you've used it and are used to it, whereas there are some noticable changes to XP, and there is an adjustment period associated with it (almost as much as when i moved from 98 to 2k) |

Personally, I think both OS's have their pros and cons. I've noticed Windows 2000 to run lighter than XP. But I've has less BSOD's on XP vs. Windows 2000 which rarely had BSOD's. Only BSOD I've ever come across on XP was when I had a buggy Detonator driver installed. Other than that, I've found XP to be more stable for my systems. However, this is just from my experience using it. I've heard some horrible stories on the boards regarding stability of XP. |

WIn XP requires newer drivers for the hardware.Plan on updating all your drivers,if one is available for WIN XP.If you have a new system I would go with XP,if it is a older system to with WIN 2K. WIN 2K is more stable, service pack 3 is available(allready installed).Been running win 2K on several machines for for about 2 years without problems. |

i say get 2000. You are already familiar with it and it would be a lot easier to diagnse problems on either computer if you had one to test with. Then, if it was me, turn the K62 into a server, or give it to the kids or something. Mabey just use it for learning/testing/playing. |

i am for 2k, i have been using it for months, and the only 3bsods were all because of a bad nic driver, otherwise its very stable
then there is all the bad experiences ive had with xp
