    Great Windows Tips! (ALL VERSIONS!)

     
    This thread was inspired by Whir's driver signing tip thread...great tip BTW bud!

    I figure I would just share a great website that has many tips (categorized) for every Windows version as well as program tips, great registry tips, some hardware tips & troubleshooting , and Easter Eggs. You guys can pick & choose which of them you want to try. Please post up which ones you have tried and the results.

    It says just to rename "win.com" to something else so that you get the "Unable to find win.com" error.

    EDIT: Oh yeah, you have to type "whateveryounameditto.com" at the prompt to get into Windows GUI.

    Works like a charm! I was kinda scared to try it because I'm at work and I can't afford to lose the data on this computer...anyway, you just do what it says.

    Rename win.com to hidden.com, Windows won't boot up...it will give you the "cannot find win.com" error. All you do is type hidden.com (you'll be at DOS) and it boots up just fine!

    Figured it out back no problems thats a great tip now if a rename it something like @1Wc~I,@D3*l It will be a nice security feature.

    Um, at work! It's a "catch 22" for me since I'm the system administrator here. If one of my bosses sees me on the net, they just assume I'm looking up something for our work computers...which is sorta true in a way. Plus I take full advantage of my broadband at home...I'm always browsing for new/interesting things to share and I save the best ones for you guys!

    thanks martoch -- I've just used a couple! (got rid of that annoying xp splash screen and turned off drive indexing: I can't BELIEVE I had that enabled )
