Mandrake Linux 9.0 Release Schedule
From pclinuxonline.com:
Warly of MandrakeSoft has posted a revised release schedule for Mandrake Linux 9.0.
Cooker is entered in its first frozen state.
That means that new versions of packages will not be accepted, except if they correct release critical bugs.
New releases are allowed, though.
Expect a beta 4 or rc 1 by the end of this week or beginning of next week, then a new rc in the beginning of september.
Deep freeze (not more upload, only very critical bugs), after that.
Final arround the 13th.
All this may change a little bit.

Ahhh.. That explains things. So Slackware jumped from 4 to 7. I was kinda wondering about that.
Got a book at B&N last week that had a free copy of Slack 3.5 but it was published in 99. Kinda wondered why wow Patrick V made so many releases in such a short time!
I don't use Drake but it seems to have allot of community associated with it. What would open source be without that?

Did they go with gcc 3.x?
I'd assume so considering the major version release...
(yes I realize its also part of their pattern, but I would think they would want to put in major upgrades into a major version release too
)
Helicopters don't fly; they vibrate so much and make so much noise that the earth rejects them.

with all the major drak tools being rewritten in perl, does it mean you'll be accessing most of them via a web interface, like you do with say webmin?
my drake experiences have been shaky at best, so i'm kinda leery about leaving the redhat world behind...

storm2k: im surprised you have trouble with drake, ive found
it easy to use than RH, but all in all, unless u have usually hardware (like a laptap, infrared ports, wireless home network)
theres no huge difference between rh and drake.my signature was so lame i deleted it.
