If you open any of the Office programs (Word, for example) and click Help--About Microsoft Word, can you get the key there?
EDIT: Maybe that's just the license key...hmm.
EDIT2: Found this: Quote: |
Should you lose the CD key number for your software, you may go into any of the applications (Word, Excel, FrontPage, etc.) and pull down the Help menu and go to About Microsoft... This will give you the Product ID which is the same thing as the CD key number. Should the software have problems in which you would need to re-install and you do not have the CD key number, you will need to go back to your distributor where you have registered your software
| I don't buy it, but that's what it said...

In XP you don't get it but 2000 I don't know. Don't use it.
If its already installed, and you reinstall it, it may not ask for the key.
I know its buried in the registry somewhere. | |

I think this came up here at TIMO a few weeks back.
In 98, you can do a registry search for the key. Get the license # from the system properties page and search the registry for that #. The key will be right next to it in the registry.
In 2000 and XP this does not work. I think you're SOL.

Hi,
Check out this program it will tell you a lot about what's installed and in a WIN 98/ME install it gives the licence number and the CD Key. I would imagine it does the same for WIN 2k. http://www.belarc.com/
Cheers

Hrmmm... Product ID is the same as the CD Key? The Product ID I have is numeric while my CD Key is alpha-numeric. Never tried using the Product ID though... |

It doesn't help, but I've got 98SE + Office 2k.
Ran the Belarc Adviser and it DID pick up the Product ID for Office 2k and 98SE, but the CD key ONLY for 98SE... It also picked up an old install of Office97, but again only the Product key - no CD key.
