WinXP Pro and Javascript question
I understand that XP does not support Javascript. Where can I
download this, and do I really need it? I'm new to XP, but the
web displays look OK.
Thanks for your help.

bill,
Discovered the same problem myself recently.
Not all versions of XP come without support for Java.
Just the currently distributed ones.
Microsoft's Explanation
I tried the Java plug-in from Sun. [the link, DVNT offered]
It doesnt run real well!
Although you'd think it should have, Sun wrote it!
Maybe there's something I haven't set up right, Dunno.
Yes, you will need a 'Java plug in' for sites built purely in Java.
But 'Java Applets' inside html pages seem to work OK, without one.[?]
Go figure.
Cheers Rusty

Thanks,Rusty and DVNT1:
As I mentioned above, all sites that I've visited so far seem to
display correctly. . .
Maybe a link to a purely java-based site would let me check it out
for sure.
Thanks again.

Hehe common misconception!
Java is NOT Javascript and Javascript is NOT Java.
Javascript will work fine in XP. You need nothing but a Browser that supports it.
Javascript is BROWSER dependent.
Java is a programming language. It requires teh Java Virtual Machine to be installed. This is what you need with some versions of XP.

For some reason, I haven't been able to get the Sun Virtual Machine to work properly on my Windows XP... The version that used to be on the Windows Update page worked fine when it was available.... My browser would just close and then generate a file named "hs_err_pid2004.log" on my desktop and here is the content...
