I am trying to burn a bootable cd of the knoppix iso, but I can't seem to make Nero or Easy CD Creator 5 burn a bootable disc. I would just use a floppy to boot, but the file for creating a floppy to boot knoppix with is on the cd (which I can't read from windoze).
Does anyone know how to burn a bootable disc using the knoppix ISO from either Nero or ECDC 5? Or perhaps does anyone know where I can download the files for the boot disc?
Any help that the gurus could offer would be greatly appreciated.

I do not have experience with EZCD5, but EZCD 4 allows ISO file burning under 'create a data CD' function: File menu, create CD from CD Image, then in the dialog box look for a dropdown menu labeled 'files of type' and use that to select ISO image files. Maybe this is similar to EZCD 5. If you already tried that, I'd ask was the MD5sum ok after downloading? The ISO might be corrupted. Or look for ISOBuster, a freeware ISO tool that lets you extract files from an ISO image. |

Yeah, the checksum is ok...
Should the ISO itself be bootable? I noticed on the english FAQ that there was a website for burning a bootable cd in windows, but I can't access any of the information on the procedure (it just keeps saying that I was denied access to the site).
I can burn the iso with no problems, but it is not bootable by default. I guess that I could try ISObuster to get the file for the boot floppy, but would windows even recognize the path and filename even if I did bust it?

Thanks, crouse, I will try it that way. When I was burning it before I was just closing the wizard and going to burn image. Let's hope that this does it....
By the way, how would you compare knoppix and virtual linux, or for that matter the preview of Debian that runs from a cd? I just chose knoppix because it was the first one that I saw, but I would also like to check out the others if they are worth the download...

Even though I'm the webmaster for Virtual-Linux.org (not the creator/developer..just the webmaster ) , I still like Knoppix 3.1 the best..... ssshhhh -- don't tell
Here is a link to my personal site that has several of the run from cd rom distro's listed.... http://www.crouse.ws/links.php?op=viewlink&cid=1
Knoppix 3.1 had my sound cards working and pretty much sets itself up ......... way cool!! |
