User deletes multiple network profile in an attempt to clean up their system, leaving only local profiles.
This caused them to lose all their Netscape 7.0 emails (because they were saved in their profile folders in Documents and settings. They are looking to me with puppy dog eyes, saying they _REALLY NEED_ those emails...
What do I do? There is nothing in the recycle bin to recover. Where do I look to recover these profiles???? |

You don't .. I have done this oops and had users do this ... Once you delete them from Control Panels, its just like highlighting them and doing a Shift-Del .. bye-bye. Maybe some kind of software could recover them ... but who knows.

This is kind of what I thought.
What kind of software would be able to recover the files, I wonder. There are a bunch of apps that can recover files if the recovery app was in place when you deleted the files, but what would be a good one for use after the fact?? |

Well, lost and found, alon gwith ONtrack's easy recovery suite both work quite well, but sadly are not free. There is a free utility called drive rescue we use at work, but I have only seen it really work on floppies. |

ah well ... Norton SystemWorks has un undelete type program ... But I think it depends on whether the file system is NTFS or FAT32 ... FAT32 being much easier to recover. Hopefully some others will chime in with some ideas. Sorry for the bad news.

OnTrack's utility only works if it was already on the machine, and I did not guess that this would be happening by this user. She is usually so docile.. Horrible time to attempt spring cleaning. :-( |

I don't mind if it costs something - There is money for such software. No money to put Ontrack Utilities on every machine though... |

Wolf, not true, i have used ontrack many times on friends and other drives jsut by slaving them. As long as the data was not written over it "will" be able to recover it. I've saved friends a lot of headache by slaving the drive and recovering data. |
