Use ICQ? Dont like the bloat? ICQ Lite - Official

Looks like AOL themselves have decided that was too bloated for the average user and stripped out all of the esoteric functions.

Try it out
Form what I read, it sucks up much less RAM now (Less than 2MB on my XP laptop when minimized after startup, about 3MB maximized.)
www.icq.com - its only 1.7MB

What you can still do
Get contact list off the net, Message, SMS, chat history, and file transfer

What you cant do
ICQ Chat (havent used it in years) and all that other stuff you never did anyways. Email notification is missed, but not too much.

Whats new
Integration with Full ICQ (If both are installed, its one click switch)
New skin (looks very Trillian-ish, but much less bloated looking)
Type indicator - If your both using ICQLite, it tells you if your buddys typing you a message if you have a message window open. MSN messenger has had this for quite a while, and its a great feature.
A seperate catagory in options for Spam control - Might not be new but Ive never seen that before

ICQ users who dont use advanced features anyways, and sick of ICQ bloat, go for it.

Hey question, back in the day wasn't there a sysopt icq list or something? do we have something like that for techimo.com?

i never liked icq cause of its bloatness but if they made it with less crap im interested in trying to again

Jason

oh good grief, it looks like an xp thing..
Oh yeah GZ we did have one of those... uh if I remember AuraEdge was taking care of that!

Oops they left out one thing in the lite..
You don't have a visible list.. ie a list for people that know you are on when you are invisible. But that's about the only thing I can see. Actually isn't this one what you get if you're set up in the old regular ICQ instead of using the Advanced features?

Yea, it was. I had it set up through the Activelist software, but that software was very beta at the time, and it kept erasing the list on me. It got pretty rediculous and I kept having to ask memebers to readd themselves to the list every so often. I just decided to back off it and wait til it went final, but I dont know if it ever did. I dont think ICQLite supports it anyways. I'm not planning on starting it back up anytime soon.
