2kpro and XPpro default to list how?

This question applies to both 2kpro and XP pro

how can i change the settings via registry or whatever for my files to be listed as list.
I hate those big icons they take up too much room on my screen and its easier to read as list.

So where is this done at?

on the file menu bar click view then list, or small icons

First, open up Windows Explorer, go to the "View" menu and select "List".

Your other choices will be "Thumbnails, "Tiles", "Icons", "List" and "Details". The default in XP for most folders is "Tiles". Icons are smaller than "Tiles".

Then go to Tools>Folder Options>Select the "View" tab>select the tab that says "Apply to all Folders".

All your folders will now have the "List" view.

no no no, i know how to do that.

I mean for it to be default as list and not large icons.

whenever you open a directory it always opens up as large icons. I want a setting in registry that defaults it to list only no matter what directory I open.

So for example i navigate through the directories i want them to ALL show up as list.

I want to change it global wise. not just for that local folder im currently viewing.

What MPC said should have set all the folders on your system to whatever settings you choose in the folder that you use it in.

For example if you reset the view to 'list' then 'apply to all folders' then all the folders on that system should open as list view.

That has been how I have done this on my system. The only time this has been a problem is folders that have pictures (in winXP). For some reason the system will change those folders with pictures to show all files as thumbnails. If this is the probelm then we both have the same question. I think the answer is in the file properties... Not certain and still to dizzy to go looking, sorry
