Upgrade to Win XP

Hi All

Here's the query I have a PC with Win98 installed which is an upgrade version from Win95. Can I use Win XP Pro upgrade version to upgrade to Win XP. Also when I upgraded to Win98 I did a clean install and inserted the Win95 disc when 98 asked for verification disk, can this be done with the Win XP disc. This will NOT be a duel boot system.

my suggestion is to do a clean install of XP on a freshly FDISK'ed & FORMATTED partition.. Stay away from the upgrade. You will thank me someday later.

He's not asking whether he should do an upgrade installation versus a clean installation. He's asking if using the upgrade version of Windows XP will ask for verification of a previous OS.

The answer to your question is yes. When doing a clean install, it will ask for you to insert your Windows 98 disk for verification purposes and the Windows 98 upgrade disk will suffice.

It will work the same way as it did when you upgraded to 98 from 95.
