| Upgrade to win2K on a sony laptop, won't go full-screen
I'm trying to install Windows 2000 (clean install - backed everything up and wiped it...) from ME, and for some reason I can't get it to use the whole screen. It just uses a small part in the middle. I'm sure it's just a driver issue, but I can't find any monitor driver for this laptop on Sony's site. The lappy is a Sony VAIO PCG-FX120. |

Yeah, that's the page where I downloaded the drivers I do have. Thanks for taking the time to look though. |

Increase the screen resolution, it should work!

Doh! I hadn't thought about it that doing that might fix it! Thanks, I'll try it and see what happens. |

Also depends on the native mode of the lappy's screen. My Gateway at work is native 1024x768 and any D3D apps in 800x600 only use the center of the screen even when they are maximized.
According to the specs (found at http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/...k/pcgfx120.pdf), it also has 1024x768 (XGA) native resolution.
So you probably had it in 800x600 (or less) and the BIOS isn't set to expand or zoom the display. If that option is there, it just expands the image to fill the screen if you're running 800x600, though it does cause some nasty things to happen to the screen fonts, etc. Your best best is just to set the desktop res to 800x600 @ 60Hz (refresh rate has no effect on LCD's AFAIK).
GL!
(Longer than Snaggle's answer, but still the same answer! )

Yep, that's what it was. I increased the res to 1024x768 and all was well. |
