from my experiance (which isnt long ) that has to do with Mozilla, it loads the WHOLE page before it displays, unlike IE which is 'progressive'

im an extreme newbie to linux too, so i am right along with you!

Congratulations! Tylenol is on the house!

    Opera Rocks!

If you install plugins (e.g. Java, Flash) in Mozilla/Netscape then Opera can also use them.

One more note - some Linux window managers are more resource intensive than others and the display performance can be slower. I use KDE because I find it most full featured and powerful, but it is somewhat slow - you might try some of the other window managers for a speed boost, but you will sacrifice some features.

BTW - a great way to copy and paste in Linux is to highlight text with the left mouse button, and then simply click the middle button in the desired paste destination.

    http://www.pcwebopedia.com/TERM/c/compile.html

-for some highly techno info type #man gcc

as stated in the other thread on mplayer, the basic steps are

    ./configure

    make

    make install

wow what a nostalgia trip! that took me back to my first adventure with redhat 5.2 - I spent a fortune on the phone d'ling the 2 disks over 56k dialup and then 2 sleep-deprived months trying to get on the net - then I found out gateway was stuffing their rigs with winmodems and winprinters (I hadn't even started on that luckily) and another 2 trying to get the linmodem hack to work - a few chirps but then I took the "break" - downhearted but not defeated...

4 years later I'm surfing techimo with galeon in flux on gentoo 1.4 listening to some fine tunes on xmms

reading your post l2l was such a reminder of the journey to today - I'm still fighting with it but I now know that whatever I'm trying to do, someone somewhere has succeeded and I'll find the info sooner or later

big congratz on getting it working now let the games commence!

    pbharris contributes to linuxjunior

check out some of the tutorials there, keep reading, experimenting and asking questions - there's a crowd of really friendly experts here (ask jkrohn about his irc experience asking for linux help...)

right, back to getting my main rig sorted out... got a few <ahem> problems of my own here...
