November 13th, 2002, 08:31 AM #2whats that about? and i heard that gforce 3 cards aren't supported right? and since ms made it i wonder what spyware is in this? This pre-release version expires on March 19, 2003. Users must install a final version of DirectX 9.0 prior to that date to ensure continued proper operation of their system.
DirectX 9.0 includes security
secuirty? what does secuirty have to do with multimedia?

It is a time-limited beta, nor will it perform as well as 8.1 will right now. No point using it until at least RC3. And that's only for coders who want a shot at the SDK. For most people, I would recomend leaving this well alone.
It's up to you though._____

Has MS done public betas always? Or is it just nowadays when they want to implement their 'security' on things. Media player was published beta, and now directx.
Both of them have their 'security'. Is this a scheme?

Could be... now-a-days with MS I always wait for some reviews from "diggers" to come out before I install any update or new product.
Shame, but its required.

I'll keep reading the end users reviews for awhile. Seems a bit odd "Security features added". ??? Hmmmm...

I'll be deffinatly holding off on this. DX 8.2 has just been released any how. That should keep me relativly happy till 9 is finished.

8.2 is at MS's site. It's a little tricky to find. Give me a sec to find it.

Basicly it's 8.1 with some directplay fixes. Nothing amazing. Not worth the download on my 56k at least. I dunno, could be helpfull to someone.

Oh, it's labeled 'directplay8.2' which has been around for a while I recall... It's for online games. Not worth indeed

yah. I didn't think so. I think it's 8.2. At least thats what all the web sites I've seen that link say. I don't really care, cause I don't need it. Just a point of interest to anyone that needs better directplay... riiiight...

So, has anyone taken the plunge yet? If so, has it improved anything?
