Linux: CVS without access to net at the linux box

Ok, I gotta face one hard fact. I do not know how to deal with CVS nor with snapshots. My Linux box does not surf, does not network. Lets not go there.
I can surf via 2 Windows PCs which each have burners in them: at work with a fat pipe behind the IT room, home is 56k dialup. Lets not go there, either.

I want a program that is ultimately going to push my patience: it is CVS only and requires compiling and depends on 3 other programs.

Ok, somehow I get the idea that I can download it to a windows PC, and burn it. Then I take that mess home and try the compile from there.

Before I begin this 'certain to be a major fiasco', can I get a CVS via a windows box?

Yes you can grab the CVS snapshot on any box & then just pack it up & transport it to your linux machine. Then simply unpack it & build like normal.

Nah... just put the downloaded cvs tree into a .zip file then unzip it on your Linux box.

Or if you're burning then yeah just copy the whole cvs tree to CD & copy it back off onto your home PC.

you should be able to copy the folder onto a cd like anything else.
then on your linux box just copy it. I'd keep the original files on the windows box in case you want to do an update cvs later on.

Using a windows box as a middleman can mess up permissions and such, I once spent AGES download Xfree 4.1 on a dialup, burnt it to a cd and it just wouldn't work. All the flags had been reset.

nukes has a really good point there... now this might sound really stupid since I've never done anything with CVS but if you can the files tarred from CVS then your permissions should be okay.. AFAIK tar will protect your permissions so long as you don't untar it in a Win32 box.

Regards..
