I haven't seen any effect with either high or low participation. I've been as low as 0 and as high as 189 (right now). The only place I see it is when people are downloading from me I can see their level. My only guess is that when you are downloading, people can see if you don't share a lot and decide if they want to cut you off or not.

I think it's just a random number to make ppl download more.

i was tlaking to a buddy of mine about it and he seems to think that the participation level sort of puts you in a place if youre remotely queued, liek if you and another user are both remotely queued for a file and you have a higher participation level, you'll get to download first... i dont know how much truth there is in that though

I seem to get faster downloads when using the participation hack that boosts my level to 1000. Haven't used it often enough though.

So, any smart person uses an old KaZaa (lite) version so that they get away from participation?

That'd be cool. Hehe, I just broke 200 and my participation level is "guru". I saw someone this morning ranked "Deity" (617)

The new version of Kazaa gives users a certain 'level' based on how much they share, called a Participation Level.

You're right ClubMed, I do remember seeing a "Supreme Being" level once.

yeah i have got supreme being (1000) and dont really see much difference. lunchbox has the right idea...or atleast that is what kazaa said it does. but i cant really tell...but then again i dont think it would be possible to tell...the only way to notice a difference is if you were downloading something and it was going very well, then all of a sudden it sucks. that could indicate that someone with a higher participation has "over-queued" you. but then again, that happened all the time anyways cuz people cancel the download, or they just get offline. so there is no way to tell for sure whether or not it works. oh well...i share 3000 files, i do my part.
oh yeah, there is also a rating system involved...go into "my kazaa" and hit ctrl+a to select all your files, then right click, and click on rating...select excellent. if you have an excellent rating, when people download from you, it counts twice for you.
the participation level comes from the ratio of bits downloaded by bits uploaded. so share and you will have a high participation level. and will the excellent rating on everything, you get there twice as fast

Sounds like it defeats the purpose of rating the quality of the file if you set them all to excellent. I only change the rating to excellent if I've checked them out and they really are good. Or if I created the file.

I have deleted your signature.
Regarding Signatures-
TechIMO does not allow the use of "signatures" in the forums. "Sigs" add unnecessary clutter and distract from the topic. Members may manually type their name at the end of their messages if they choose, but the use of catch phrases, graphics, or hyperlinks as a signature is strictly prohibited.

If I got it right, people with fastest connections get even faster, while I will stay queued and slow with my dial up ?
