Question What other OS's were made before Windows 95?

Have there been any other operating systems that were made with a GUI, during the time before Windows 95? Aside from earlier Windows systems, Linux and OS/2 Warp, were there any others? I once saw an ad in an old DOS magazine for some sort of OS that looked like Windows 3.1, but was simpler, and cheaper...though I've forgotten what it was called...

Desqview from Quarterdeck (QEMM) was a GUI multitasking eviorment. But just like Windows 1, 2/286, 386, 3.0, 3.1, WFW3.11, it ran on top of DOS so I don't know if it qualifies as an OS.

You forgot Win95,98 and ME on that list

can't think of any others but dosshell (but that's not very GUI, more like ASCII)

I remember anticipating DOS 5.0. I also remember wondering where my big black screen was when win95 came out.

How about LDOS for the TRS-80?

You disqualified OS/2 from the quiz.

But a point or two on OS/2.
There were a number of versions of OS2.

I vaguely recall an early one was called Operating System 2 for Windows NT.
Had MS copyright and regd trademarks all over it.

Then the OS/Warp, which was ahead of W95.
In '94 offered, voice recognition, fancy desktop, etc.

I know for a fact that OS2/Warp4 is still being run.
On a large percentage of the Auto Teller Machines* in Aust.

    Why?

    1. Stability.
    2. Proprietary.*

IBM still owns a lot of that technology*

    OS2 was a coulda been.

Unfortunately, too much of the source code had been surrended to MS. For IBM to promote it.

I remember DOS 2.1 on 5.25" floppies. The first GUI I used (besides early versions of windows + MacOS) was RiscOS, which ran on ARM machines (Acorn Archimedies)
There was also AmigaOS and that wierd program on the Sinclair QL.
