    Question Please help

I am trying to update from windows 98 to windows xp pro and I am having problem getting computer to load after install. I have had to reload 98 to use my computer. I have a hp pavilion 8496 it meets a requirements. it is 501mghz, PIII, 384memory. I was hoping someone could help me to get it to work on this system or let me know if it is a waste of time.

Thanks in advance for any help that anyone can give.

It should work. Are you receiving an error during install? Will it not boot after installing XP? Are you doing a clean install or XP or trying to upgrade?

    http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/documen...ion10396&lc=en

There is a link for thier info on XP

    http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/softwar...396&sw_lang=en

Taken from there. it might be a bios issue. They state they are not updating to ensure XP compatibility. Post back the exact err. and we might be able to help.

I don't rember exactly what it said. I did have some problems getting the disk to load xp in the first place. Then finnally it completed and after I shut down the system my problem started and it would not load again.

Thanks krohnjw glad to be aboard..

Does the install complete? When you boot XP (Assuming the install completes) do you receive a bluescreen?
