bout to install redhat 8... couple of quickie questions..
I finally have a computer available for me to play around with and I want to install redhat 8.
i have downloaded 5 ISO's of the 'psyche' type.
now can anyone give me some tips on how to make this installation go as smoothly as possible?
how many of the iso's do i even need to burn?
thanks all

you should only need the first 3 iso's the other two are just source code. Psyche is the 'codename' for this version of redhat

If you have a fresh HD that doesn't have any windows partitions, let her rip
For the most part RH should detect all of your hardware, I've never really had a problem with their installs.Helicopters don't fly; they vibrate so much and make so much noise that the earth rejects them.

What are you planning on putting it on?
Depending on what extra software you plan on installing depends on how many of the disks you'll need. If you have a "mini" ISO, you don't need to burn that unless you're going to do a minimal installation.

Just the first three....the last 2 are source RPMs. The install should go very smoothly, as long as you arent on some crazy raid array or something
. I would say just let Redhat autopartition the space that you select it can use, I had a few problems when manually defining it, it froze on package install until i let it set itself up
Let us know if you have any other questions.

i've only done 1 installation of rh8 but i believe you only really need discs 1 & 2.
#4 & 5 are source, & #3 was optional stuf dependent on what packages you selected.

Thanks for the extensive response, it's much appreciated! I'm definitely going to look at all these options. Do you think the prices of the 660, 660ti or 7870 will drop when the new cards come out?
