Crypto Linux?

I had heard that linux will let you encrypt hard drive partitions with AES and Twofish encryption codes. So when I had installed mandrake, I had set aside 2 GB for this in a ReiserFS partition. It's mounted at /encrypted.

But I had also heard that I needed to recompile the kernel. So I checked it out. After some research at Anandtech, I found a guide and got crackin. I dled kernel 2.5.33, the 2.5.33 crypto patch, and the cryptoloop patch. The patch would niot install (kept saying I had to run a configurator, when I had) and the kernel will not compile at make bzImage. I'm using the defaults from the mandrake config file (in /boot) with some modifications (OSS enabled, ReiserFS in Kernel instead of module, Atholon optimized instead of 586 optimized, Cryptology options selected.)

So whats wrong? And is the Crypto program installed in later versions of the kernel (like 2.5.8?)?

This may be to blame for the kernel not compiling. I am compiling the kernel in /home/redwolf/linux/linux-2.5.33 to keep the system from going nuts and self destructing.

Or is there a way to avoid recompiling the kernel alltogether? (that would be nice)

a package for cryptoapi that doesnt require you to patch the kernel. It didn't work for me (said I needed to be using gcc 3.2.1 even though i am) but you can have a go if ya want
