i am installing redhad 7.1 on an alpha box. i have never done an install before. stuck in cd 1 and it just came up with a prompt. tried doing the dqa0 -flags 0 command and it just rebooted. isnt there a boot floppy i can download somewhere? any tips or anything at all?

i am not familiar with alpha but all i can say is did you check the integrity of the images before you burned them? well this is if you downloaded the images and made them yourself.
also, what kind of prompt are you getting? you can defintely get a boot floppy i would imagine or make one. im sure there will be more info posted.

You can make one with the Red Hat disk using rawwrite....but if the CD is presenting you with a prompt then it is booting. Is it asking you for which kernel to boot and install? Have you tried hitting F2 or F3 at the prompt to see if it will present flags or options. |

i tried f2 and f3 nothing happened. although f1 turned on scroll lock
so if i have cd 1 in and a floppy in, dont i need to mount the cdrom drive first and then run some command to create the boot disk |
