| My wifes killed my Powerbook!!!!
Hi,
I just got home to find my G3 Powerbook wasn't running courtesy of my wifes shutting it down after walking past it and seeing a screen asking if the user was sure they wanted to shut down and clicking yes.
I can't restart the damn thing with the MAC TFS or by pushing and holding the power button the normal remedy for lo batt which it dont have at present.
Cheers

Tip 1: Do not become too angry with the wife. Nothing good can ever come out of that.
Tip 2: Wait for some Mac guru to find this, or you find them. http://www.spymac.com |

Hi,
Some of the mystery has ben revealed. It would appear that a drink was spilt on the keyboard prior to this message being displayed. When the Power button is pressed the HDD starts spinning for a few secs then it's all quiet. The only way to turn it off then is to remove the battery. It's a Bronze Keyboard one so I have been able to see right into the keys with a flashlight it seems that a couple have some moisture under them so it(the Powerbook) is now perched in the Kitchen near the cooker( it's an AGA that is on all the time) in the hope that it might dry out.
I lifted the keyboard up and looked underneath, there is no sign of anything having dripped onto anything below the Keyboard so there is some chance that it may be salvagable.
Thanks for the link Praetorian I hoped over there and registered but didn't post as I now know what was the problem also I have to agree with Tip # 1. In fact we were at a party a few weeks ago where the womenfolk were discussing womens things and I heard my wife say that in the Ten years we have been together she can't remember me raising my voice to her.
(This could be to the fact that I work away for a good portion of the time!!!!!)
Cheers

Get some electronic's cleaner, the type that won't hurt plastic and removes moisture. My wife pulled the exact same trick. Take the keybd out out the computer and spray it with the cleaner. Then have a bottle of compressed air ( used to blow out your computer) and let it dry overnight. Been using soaked keybd for months with no problem.

Hope you get it dried out and working . Liquid and circuits not a good mixture. May have to take it apart (as much as possible) to dry. But if you got a message I'm assumming it shorted something out and thats not good.
Good luck

Hi,
That's a good idea GoldenBuddah except for the fact that the starting price for those boys is $4244 over here. That is $1000 more than on your side of the pond. I could fly out and buy one and still save on buying it over here. The one I got now came from CompUSA inCoral Gables FL because the Apple Store in Ft Lauderdale didn't have one on the day I wanted one.
Cheers
