| Fresh install, crashes,black screens,and BSODS
Ok this started last night, when I was adding a NIC to this system.I have changed HDD 4 days ago, things were good.
I put the nic in and got on the maerrygoround.
BSODs,fatal errors,NIC wouldn't intall as it had IRQ Conflict ECT. so I took it out, forgotten
I tried to reecord some music with N-Tracks, freeze, tried a different program freeze, sound recorder, freeze.WTF!
Wen t back to the old HDD which was working fine, same thing, freezing all the time.
So being fed up with it all, I upgraded to ME which I wanted to try anyway (yes I know it's a bad move) Still it will not play music. freezes everytime, have to reset it to get back.I have tried 3 other sound card as well.Took the HSF off, cleaned it all up, didn't reseat the CPU though.
Seems to work fine as long as I don't try to do music????
How do I fix this POS?
For got to add, I have installed the latest driver since the problem began, and have Direct X 8 as well.
Amptron 8400c
400 AMD K6/2
modem
USB card
Ensoniq PCI Audio
2 mb video
128 mb PC100
2 maxtor HDDs 1 gig and 3 gig
CD-ROM CD-RW
I have ran this combo for a long time without problems, why now?
Thanx
BC

Go into your bios and force the ESCD to reset, or enable it, whatever your bios setting specifies. Then reboot. It will reset to disabled after a successful boot.
Resetting the ESCD tells your motherboard to pass IRQ information, etc. to the operating system. You might need to do this after removing the NIC card as the OS might still think the IRQ assignement for it is there.
If you decide to try the NIC card again, place it into a different PCI slot. Some PCI slots share resources with other slots or devices on your motherboard, and these devices might not share resources well.

The nic is an ISA card, it won't install becauseall the IRQs are used up.
I'll try to reset the ESCD and see what happens.
I have just about given up on even gettin the NIC to work |
