It kinda depends what you are looking for with the OS.
I have found 2K ( Server and Pro ) to be more stable than a horse's house compared to 9x fam or ME, and for a long time that was the backbone OS of my home network.
Nowadays, my eldest son and I both run laptops with XP Home on and off the network, and they behave beautifully.
We are not into gaming, ( apart from GTA2, Airport.Inc and Monkey 4 ) so I can't speak from a gaming perspective.

i'll put in a vote for 2k. Most stable MS OS out there. Not a gamer either so... can't say much about that

I run 2k server on my main machine. I like it a lot and like how it has IIS built in to the OS. The extent of my gaming is no more than MOHAA, BF1942, Nightfire, UT2003, Mafia, Hitman2, and Quake3. Those are in no particular order btw. Not once has it crashed on me while playing a game, or EVER for that matter. All programs that work with XP that I've used work flawlessly in 2KS. I'm assuming this is the same for 2K Pro.

I have to say XP. That's not a vote against 2k, as I've never used it. I love XP though. It's a world of improvement over 98. |
