Lost Data. HELP!!!!

I accidentally formatted my application partition and Lost ALL MY MUSIC, DATA, everything

I went to the local MicroCenter (computer store) and saw a product called RestoreIT but it seems to work just like XP's system restore feature but I need something that can recover data from a formatted Partition. I know my friends here at TIMO would be able to offer some insight. I'm using Win2k by the way

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

McAfee saves the day

Using McAfee's EasyRecovery program I was able to recover all data in the partition I accidentally formatted. This is a joyous day. Very worth the 50 bucks I had to pay. Hooray for McAfee.

Curious. Was the partition originally NTFS? Did you get all of the data back? I assume you didn't reinstall Windows or write anything to the partition before installing McAfee to a seperate drive / partition?

I ask because of a thread I started yesterday similar to this. I gave up on McAfee products a few years ago but would buy it if it was worth it.

Try R-Studio for a good all-round software recovery prog that doesn't break the bank. You can use the demo to see what can be recovered. I used it to recover 90%+ of data I accidentally FDISKed and formatted on a drive (got 2 drives mixed up ).

As long as you haven't written any other data to it, most partitioning will only overwrite the FAT table and MBR, so the data itself is untouched.

Cheers

The partition was FAT32. I got all of my data back except instead of the original folder names they were restored as DIR01, DIR02.. and so on. That was a minor inconvenience but since I keep a neat computer I knew what folder was what.

Here is what I did.
Original config:
c: 6 gig NTFS XP install
d: 74 gig Fat 32 application Partition

I popped in a boot disk and did a Format c: not realizing that the boot disk could not see the NTFS partion. I reinstalled Win2k in the NTFS c: and when I completed the installation I was aghast to see that all of my files were gone. I was sick I tell ya.
As far as the McAfee recovery software goes, I installed it on the c: NTFS partition and it worked well in recoving data from a FAT16 or FAT32 Partition but it cannot restore data from an NTFS partition. Sorry if that's what you have. And don't write over the partition you are trying to recover.

Mike

Sorry I missed that thread.

Hey Mickwish! Where were you yesterday before I shelled out 50 bucks! Thanks anyway.
