aarmenaa:
Are there any pads on the bottom of the laptop. If there are you could probably remove those and the screws might be under em. I know you can to this with a mouse(computer). |

Actually, it has 1 big pad about 10*3 inches on the bottom. I thought about pulling it up, but I don't feel anything under it. I'm thinking I have a new doorstop, eh?

-Aarmenaa | Why not pull it off. You could always glue it back on. |

sometimes they like to hide em under stickers too, so they can see if you've been having a peek inside.

I tried peeling that rubber foot off-it started ripping. I'm not really interested in it anymore. The hard disk is toast-I confirmed that one. I put the machine up to my ear and started it-there's all kinds of bad noise coming out of it. I couldn't hear it before because it was sitting next to my desktop that sounds like a small jet engine. This laptop's so old there's really no use in putting a new drive in it now. I'll just give it back to the guy and tell him to buy a used one off e-bay or something.

| Does the keyboard lift up ? Quote: |
The keyboard has the familiar layout of a ThinkPad with a function key capability that allows you to quickly access system functions such as power management control. The keyboard tilts to a comfortable angle for typing when the system is opened and there is a palm-rest area. If desired, you can adjust the keyboard to have no tilt. The keyboard lifts up allowing access to the floppy disk drive (FDD) bay, HDD bay, CD-ROM, and battery for quick upgrades or battery changes in the ThinkPad UltraBay(TM). The TrackPoint III has accurate pointing capability and the "drag-and-drop" function of the click buttons is helpful. You can lock and hold the buttons in without continuously pushing on them.

Hey, now I can get it open! I couldn't see what I was trying to open because the keyboard pops up. I was looking at the outside of the unit! Doh.
I took out both the hard disk and the CD-ROM, and put them back into the system by themselves. Neither of them will detect. I'm going to assume that this is an IDE controller problem? I find it hard to imagine that both the hard disk and the CD-ROM went out at the same time.
