My monitor was giving me problems so I tried to boot into safe mode in XP to see what was the cause. The problem is that the result of this boot was a black screen that had 'safe mode' text in the corners and the xp pro reference at the top. The mouse point was also in the middle of the screen and could be moved around but as there was nothing else the pointer was useless.
I then tried to boot normally but now all it gets to after the xp loading screen is a black screen with the mouse pointer, which is obviously useless to me.
I tried to use the xp recovery disk but as I have windows 98 and mandrake also installed (with 98 being at the start of the HDD) all the recovery found was the 98 partition.
Is a reinstall of xp all that can be done?
