DirectX 8.1X....or 9X ?

I know windows XP Home comes with DirectX 8.1 i Recently upgraded to 9X cus its required to Run 3Dmark Test.
I got not so good Mark..like 1700 Marks.
I fell litttle slow when trying to Host a game On UT2003.[just with custom maps]Normal with default maps..I got DSL.
SO..DirectX8.1 or... 9X..?

Anyone with more knowledge than me there ,can you write me something that will help me to understand more.

dx9 should not reduce your performance.

so, unless you have something like permedia128 chipset, keep dx9. just be sure you got the drivers to support it.

As muno says, DX9 is not suppossed to lower you performance.

As for the 3dmark score, don't be dissapointed, you probably have a GREAT system BUT you don't have a DX9 compliant card. The only DirectX9 cards out there are the Radeon 9500, 9500Pro, 9700, 9700Pro and the GeForce FX. 3Dmark is a synthetic benchmark.. meaning... it is not worth it.. Benchmark using games and you will see the difference.!
