| Error message...need help
When I right click on My Computer, then click on Properties, I get the message "Rundll32.exe - Entry Point Not Found " (this is the title bar), and then the Red X below with the message " the procedure entry point RemoteAssistancePrepareSystemRestore could not be located in the dynamic link library WINSTA.dll" After I click OK to that, the System Properties screen opens up.
Gateway had me do a xp repair but this did not help. Any other suggestions out there?
Thanks in advance.

Try disabling System Restore, then rebooting. Or is System Restore not enabled??

LOL its 9 pm here!
Just right click on My Computer on the desktop, go to the Sytem Restore tab, and tick the box to disable it. Then reboot and see what happens.
Cheers

Hi. that is the problem. When I right click on My Computer, I receive the error message. When I click OK to that message, System Properties comes up but it does not have the System Restore tab.
I just tried the same thing on another computer and it was fine - that is, after right clicking on My computer, the System properties came up and it had the System Restore tab.
Hmmmmm |

Ok, definitely a System Restore prob. The only suggestion would be to reinstall XP, which you have done.
I don't think System Restore is in Add/remove windows component, or you could try that.
The only solution I can think of is a fresh install (ie wipe out old partition and reinstall clean). Of course, you have to save all your data, and reinstall all your programs if you do that.
Might be a registry entry you could change, but I don't know enough about System restore to hazard what it would be.
Sorry I can't be more help.
Cheers

Hmmm... did a quick google of your error terms, and came up with this page, which suggests a virus (worm). Do you have an up-to-date antivirus program running?

| I have a fix for you
This worked for me. I upgraded from XP home to XP Pro. then kept getting the message about "... procedure entry point RemoteAssistancePrepareSystemRestore could not be located..."
Follow these steps
1. In My Computer, click the Tools menu -> Folder Options.
2. On the View tab, make sure to check the option "Hide extensions for known file types".
3. Click OK.
4. Click the Start menu -> Run. Type "%windir%\inf" (Without quotation marks) in the Open field. Click OK.
5. Locate and select the file "sr.inf". Right-click it and then click Install. |
