    Unhappy Problem with Mandrake Linux on Laptop

     
    I'm attempting to install Mandrake Linux on my laptop. I have a problem however. When the system boots up, it displays about a page of information (normal Linux stuff) and then starts madly scrolling numbers inside of brackets and doesn't continue booting.

    The mainly problem with diagnosing this is that for some reason 'Pause' doesn't work, I guess this is a Linux thing. So, I'm unable to see at what point it starts to fail. Anyway, the install went fine with no problems noted so I'm confused as to why it isn't booting.

    failsafe mode does the same.

    What laptop?

    Have you tried booting from the disk you made during install

    In my experience failsafe mode in Mandrake 8.1 is stuffed.

    At what point does the boot fail?

    It is a Compaq Laptop - Pentium 150. I'll have to go look at the model # as it isn't in front of me.

    Looks like I may have to reinstall it them? As I didn't figure on having any problems and didn't make the bootdisk.

    hummm. are the BIOS defaults loaded? and how is the memory?
