"A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows XP service pack that contains this fix."
YEAH, wait for another disaster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I personally highly suggest installing SP1. I have installed SP1 on probably on over 70 systems since SP1 became available and have only had 2 systems that had MINOR problems after the install and those issues were fixed relatively painlessly.
The benefits far outweigh the negatives.
thats my 2cents.

I agree, i've had no problems with SP1, then again i've had no problems without it either.
Still, i'd rather be up to speed.
I remember seeing an article that Robrich posted in the "news" section indicating that SP2 was due to be released in the near future.

| Your remark is off topic and has noting to do with what is being discussed. Profanity is not allowed either.

sp1 isn't the problem...it's all the added hotfixes that ms is releasing which makes things potentially unstable. |

I think it's useful.. Inside the service pack is a bunch of fixes that don't warrant being released as hotfixes you can download through Windows Update. |

why would you install XP in the first place, its a piece of a**
| Do you have Windows XP? Have you ever used it on an extended basis?
Posting seemingly uninformed, baseless accusations like this is pointless, unless you want others to have a lower opinion of your future postings.
Personally, I've been running Windows XP Pro on my system since December, and I find it much more stable and easier to use than previous Windows OS's. Tweaking is much easier too
So far, I have converted 3 friends and my brother (who is a hardcore gamer) to XP Pro, and they have nothing but good to say about it.
Unless you have specific gripes about XP, saying nothing would appear to be the more intelligent thing to do. Sorry folks, posts like that are really irritating

I personally have liked Windows XP better than the other versions....it's been far more stable than other versions and I've used em all except Windows 2000.........I especially like the containment of a crash (normally) to one program, not the whole system like other versions..........it's not perfect, but as far as I can figure, for the functions and versitility these programs provide, it's amazing they are as flexible and stable as they are........considering the variety of hardware, software configurations they will absorb............kinda like havin a car and being able to run a large variety of types of fuel and engines in the same chassis........ |
