outlook tries to check email even offline
Hi. I was wondering if anyone knows how to get outlook to not check for email when my computer is not online. I use outlook on my laptop, and I like outlook to start when the computer starts because I like to see my calendar and tasks right away. I also like to keep it minimized while I work. But sometimes I don't get online for a long time. Outlook keeps checking for messages and giving me errors even though I have it set not to check automatically offline in the options dialog. Anyone know a workaround for this?

to get it at startup copy the "winword" shorcut from the C:\Program files\Microsoft Office\Office\Winword.exe to yoru startup folder.
as far as it checking all the time, im stumped. you should just be able to turn that off in tools, options, mail delivery, uncheck " check for new messages every XXX minutes"
check the dial up options right underneath that too.

Thanks. I knew how to get it at startup... but i added outlook.exe to my startup folder, not winword. it's the email thing that is weird... i want it to check when i'm connected to the internet, but not check if i'm offline.

Outlook only checks for an online or offline state at launch.
You want to make sure that Outlook is not running when connecting/disconnecting a network connection (i.e. docking/undocking)

But, when I start the computer and start outlook, I'm not online. So why does it try to check my messages?

What version and type of Outlook are you running?
Is it Outlook Express?
