Is there a program that will let me take a screenshot of my desktop so I can post it online?

Why don't you just press the Print Screen Key on your keyboard, then goto a Paint program and paste it and save it??

Yes, it's called the Print Screen button located on your keyboard.
Press it, then open an imaging program (Paint will do) and press control-v to paste the snapshot image.
Mike
EDIT: Dang I was .5 seconds too slow...

if you're running windows, all you need is right there - the PrintScreen button.
hit PrintScreen and the currrent desktop will be copied to the windows clipboard
Alt-PrintScreen will copy the current window to the clipboard.
once you have it in the clipboard you can create an empty graphic file and paste.
