Hi,
I started a thread a couple of days ago regarding a problem with setting up my USB Alcatel speedtouch modem with Mandrake 9.0. I got a lot of useful help that I appreciated. However, my friend told me that Redhat 9.0 was more newbie-friendly so I downloaded it and have just installed it over Mandrake 9.0.
OMG
It really is wonderful, screw XP, i'm in love! However, I am still unable to get my internet connection working but for a different reason.
Redhat 9.0 has a much easier internet connection wizard. Problem is, I select an xDSL connection and am prompted to select my modem from a long list of possibilites. The Alcatel Speedtouch is not listed. Also, it asks me where the modem is and gives possibilities such as eth00, eth01, etc but no mention of USB (the modem is on a USB hub, which I presume works as the printer is connected to it and works). My question is thus:
Is this because Redhat doesn't have the required driver? If so, I believe the below link contains them:
http://www.webconexion.net/speedtouch/index.php
I am sorry but I really can't even follow these simple instructions (yes I am that stupid!). For instance, I don't even know how to copy the file to the required place and where do I type these commands?!! Could someone tell me step-by-step how I achieve this in order to get the modem to work (assuming this is the problem).
I am using GNOME.
Thankyou
